Here the rubbish was collected much later in the day and his car , driving along the straight , dusty roads of this area , brushed against boxes of rubbish lying on the edge of the pavement . In one street he drove down in this way the doctor counted a dozen rats , tipped out on the dirty rags and vegetable peelings .
