Blinis are a traditional Russian dish, although the first mentions date back to Ancient Egypt. On the territory of Russia, the first pancakes appeared during pagan times, and meant a dish of worship of the Sun God - hence the round shape. Already in those days, different types of flour were used to prepare pancakes: wheat, buckwheat, oatmeal and mixed. The first baked pancake was left on the window or given to the poor - in this way people remembered the souls of the dead.
